Dedicated to Paige: Thanks for reading

Gratefully shedding her greasy apron, Victoria inhaled the cool night air as an ocean wind breezed her bare arms. A noisy diner was no place for a twenty-something like herself to widdle away the burgeoning years of her life, she thought once again. She was grateful for the job, mind you; Linda and Max were the best bosses she's ever had. Not only were they understanding (Once they had let her have a few vacation days when her aging cat had died.) but their generosity and kindness knew no bounds. Victoria found this out right away when she drifted onto the quiet Hawaiian beach, with nothing more than a sack full of ratty notebooks and the clothes off her back. The elderly Samoan couple seemed like they were divinely placed at the harbour that bright September night, sweetly strolling the aged pier. Before long they noticed a frizzy-haired, bespeckled young woman slinging an unproportionately large kitbag, bulging every which way. Not only did they save her from an probably horrific night at a hostel, they gave her a roof over her head and steady job at their local diner...
