Silver? Heh, hardly anyone sees beyond it's sheen and rarity. "The next best thing to gold and platinum" they say, but only because it's usually cheaper. I never quite understood why though, durability-wise, it's slightly more than gold, slightly less than platinum, and surprisingly more rare than both. Yet it is still seen as the poor rich man's platinum, the rich poor man's aluminium and, more importantly to our story, the key to a most subtle insult in the world of precious metals.
Giving someone something made of silver when the item is usually encased or plated with gold or ever-expensive platinum purveys the message: "Yes, I spent a lot of money on you, but not on the best I could buy. I don't respect you enough to get you first-class shit and you'll have to settle for this." A tad messed up? Maybe. A little too insightful? Yea, but there are people in the world that believe it, some so much so that they take the insult too close to heart.
So they to decide to shoot someone else's.
To be continued.
