Something nagged at me, I wasn't sure what. "But, wait...hold on, where are you going?" I grabbed his arm to stop him. He turned around and looked at me, sad resolve in his eyes. My hand dropped.
"You're going back...aren't you?" I felt weak. Breathing suddenly became difficult. Liz steadied me when I stared to sway. My brain felt like it was tied in a sailor's knot, I just couldn't comprehend it.
"The ship...your 'errands'...you knew you had to go back, didn't you?" I managed to croak. Everyone looked away and no one said a word. My emotions started to slowly unjumble themselves. I realized I was angry.
"How long...how long have you known?" I sobbed, softly. "How long have you known!?" Screaming, I lunged at him, pounding at his chest. I was hellbent on beating my fist into him until everything made sense again. When I realized that this wouldn't stop my world from spiralling, I buried my face in his shoulder and cried. He held me close, stroking my head.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I whispered at last.
"You wouldn't have let me go," he replied. "You wouldn't have let me do what I came here to do." He threw off his gloves and took my hands in his. "Knowing you, you would have come up with some brilliant plan to leave yourself to have me stay, to protect -me-... But Marvi this time... it's you are the one who needs to be protected, not me...you are the one who has the bright future ahead of you...Trust me, I've seen it; you'll need sunglasses." He added. It forced the quickest smile out of me.
"You're probably right...
